Alberto Makali established his brand in the 1990′s. The brand is a family-owned and operated business; therefore, with the family’s name on the line, Alberto Makali makes sure that every piece that leaves his store is flawless. He is very hands-on, and when asked what a typical day in his shoes is like, he says, “I start my day making fabric selections. I work with my assistants from each of my divisions. We work on design themes, colour palettes, design changes, and fittings.” Alberto Makali imports choice fabrics from all over the world, choosing only the newest and most unique. He also says that what inspires him most in design is warmth and nature.

Over the years Alberto Makali has developed a loyal following of celebrities because of the unparalleled luxury and intricacy in his designs. Here are a few notable stars donning an Alberto Makali (Paris Hilton, Adriana Patridge, Mary J Blidge, Rainey Qualley, Brooke Anderson, Zooey Deschanel, Sarah Hyland, Carrie Underwood):

One of the latest appearances of the brand in the limelight is in “The Vampire Diaries”, where in one of the series’ episodes last season, the characters got all dolled up to attend a ball at vampire Klaus’ (Joseph Morgan) house. Candice Accola’s character Caroline (far left in the group photo), wore a blue and silver tulle gown by Alberto Makali.

Costume designer, Leigh Leverett, talks about her choice for Caroline’s dress in a recent interview for Zap2It, “What I love about Caroline’s dress is the way it’s cut and the silver beading. I don’t know how to put it in words – a lot of times in shopping it just hits me that it’s perfect for that character.

But the humble designer apparently sees every woman deserving of a beautiful dress, not being biased as to their status in the society, as he gets quoted saying, ““It’s always exciting to dress a celebrity, but I get a great deal of gratification seeing women around the world looking and feeling attractive in my designs.
