What to wear, what to wear for Prom 2012?!

Yes, Prom 2012 does seem far, far away.

As the new school year approaches, and newly minted seniors get their outfits ready for their first day of classes, I am sure that they can’t help but wonder what they will where to their Prom. It’s never too early to start thinking about what gown to wear to prom and what kind of dress to wear for After Prom 2012.

Designers have yet to release concrete details about what they have in store for Prom 2012 dresses and gowns, but we’re going to make some early educated guesses.

The best way to tell what is going to become fashionable for an upcoming season is by checking out the red carpet. Red carpet walkers like your A-list celebrities, supermodels, etc., are the people who help set the trends.

Old is New Again

Let’s go back to a time where things were a bit simpler, and when it was okay to wear a fitted sheath with a pair of black seam stockings in the sultry summer heat. Welcome to the 1940’s. The 1940’s was a fine time for fashion. Think Mad Men; think fitted sheaths, sophisticated mermaid gowns, and homecoming/debutante style ball gowns with crinoline and tulle aplenty. For Prom 2012, envision yourself in a daring, yet elegant gown like this Chiffon Dress by Faviana. This dress is a stunning 1940’s style with a touch of modernity with its front slit. The asymmetrical neckline and fabric design adds a touch of 40’s drama and superior elegance.

If you like to steer clear of what’s trendy, check out the Sue Wong collection. Sue Wong offers a multitude of options for 1920’s and 1930’s style dresses with a modern and evocative twist. A beautiful Deco Beaded Cocktail Dress by Sue Wong is a stellar choice if you’re looking to mix old with new. The scalloped skirt is flapper-esque with its clusters of sequins and beading, which has been whispered to be a hot trend for Prom 2012!

Bling it on…with feathers!

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, indeed! In addition to actually wearing the jewels and the bling as accessories, our dress should shimmer and sparkle, too! For Prom 2011, a lot of sophisticated styles were introduced with a little bling here, and a little bling there. Many often feel that rhinestones, sequins and beads, crystals, and brooches are just for Wedding gowns and Pageant gowns, but no more, my friends!  Be prepared to glam up your evening with a sequin encrusted mermaid or a ball gown dripping in sparkling rhinestones.

Feathers are sparking up a common trend now; we have seen many trendy girls wearing feathered headbands on the streets of NYC. Check out this prom dress by Mac Duggal Prom  that has a lot of glam and a wispy feather-like skirt reminiscent of a modern day Flapper!

More colors, less prints!

Last season for Prom 2011, there were a lot of gorgeous prints introduced. From tropical to subdued watercolor like patterns, we’ve seen the gamut, and all are equally stunning. For Prom 2012, prints may be a thing of the past, and a broader color palette may be introduced. However, we’re still researching, so this guess may be totally wrong. Perusing a few websites, I stumbled upon this helpful tidbit of information, the spring 2012 color report, offering youthful and fresh color palettes of oranges, blues, and yellows. More to come on this super important factor when searching for your 2012 Prom dress!
